Mind Abyss

Only through training, do we become able to respond well… At the beginning [of our lives] one responds through emotions; at the end, one responds through propriety

The Nature That Emerges from the Decree

A continual experience of any element, be it emotion or notion, can result in creating a spiral abyss in life. Whatever intangible or tangible scenarios we experience, we create certain emotion and notion in exchange.

Since humans are highly adaptive creatures, some of the emotions and notions that surface are mainly reactions from first impressions or learned social responses which are stored in our minds since young: a mind abyss, resulting in most being unable to comprehend why they feel a certain way at a certain time. These raw data snowball and ultimately influence our satisfaction and contentment in life.

A single strong principle and belief can kick start forming an illusion that snowballs into this spiral of abyss in our minds which may assist us or turn our lives up-side-down. Therefore, identities are challenging to discard for certain individuals. With pleasant and supportive mind abyss, some transit into someone they want to be, while others succumb and lose themselves regardless of their starting point.

There is no one to blame for this, not our genetic structure nor our nurture environment, as whatever that happens right now is a result of the past, branching down from a long time ago, and what may happen in the future is a result of now, something we can change.

Thus, if we desire change, we can partake in various rituals that are different than the usual, a ritual that may put a stop to, or alter, our mind abyss from spiraling into toxicity. This notion is daunting, yet liberating, that a single strong principle and belief can alter our life path.

Ergo, the radical questions are: (1) What preconceptions have we developed over the years that have, significantly or insignificantly, influenced the way we look at the world? (2) What rituals can we implement to alter the path of a spiraling mind abyss if we desire change?

Eternal Echoes

What we do now echoes in eternity

Marcus Aurelius

Challenges engulfed us all, with Covid-19 pandemic transpiring early this year and the racism dispute following up. In the midst of all, some livelihoods are being jeopardized and others experience cabin fever with increasing mental disintegration.

The importance of mental fortitude to face chaos has been spoken about since ancient periods. Events, occurrences, ordeals and chaos without fail emerge with time. There is little we could control externally but plenty internally.

With the negativities lashing at us through media and other modes, one of the solutions that I found working best at the moment is to stay informed yet simultaneously emotionally detached. Surely, emotions are essential to empathize with others nonetheless too much of anything is prone to be detrimental, or even backfire.

There is little to be gained in holding on to the past and controlling the future. Many times, it is during the ‘blanks’ of letting go when ideas and solutions originate. We can focus on what we could do now given the situations (e.g. volunteering, creating awareness through as much purposeful and peaceful means as possible etc.) with the resources we have and leave the rest to the universe.

The idea of surrendering, letting go and allowing the partake of the universe in life can provide a sudden realization and emphasize that in life we are very little and our humble power can only act on the now. The present is ever-lasting. Milliseconds before is the past and milliseconds later is the future. What could be changed and lived is now. We are experiencing the very thing that could be gone at the very next moment.

Ergo the radical question is: what do you want to do now that will, definitely or indefinitely, significantly or insignificantly, form an eternal yet fleeting transition and mark in this universe?
